§ 01 The Firm

Your legal matter is important. You should work with attorneys who think it is too.

Courthouse columns
Counsel for individuals, families & businesses · since 1974

There are countless big-box firms to choose from; some even have names that sound familiar. But bigger is not always better. People who go this route often find they are treated like a case number, not an actual person. Their calls are not returned. Questions go unanswered. It doesn’t have to be that way.

At The Law Offices of Raymond J. Antonacci, LLC, we operate a different type of law firm. When you choose us, you will work directly with your attorney — not a case manager or paralegal. We will spend a great deal of time helping you understand your legal position, your rights and all of your options. Together we will discuss the best way to achieve your goals based on your unique circumstances.

Personal attention is great. But we produce results.

Attorney Antonacci has practiced law in Connecticut since 1974. We have helped accident victims win millions of dollars in compensation, helped families discharge hundreds of thousands of dollars through personal bankruptcy, saved many homes from foreclosure, and protected numerous Connecticut companies during complex litigation. Through creative legal strategies, we find solutions where others only see roadblocks — and we do not stop fighting until we get the best possible result for each individual client.

§ 03 Verdicts & Settlements

The record speaks in results.

Published verdicts and settlements from the firm’s own casework. Every case is unique — these are ours.

$3,250,000 Medical malpractice · settlement Failure to diagnose and treat inter-cranial pressure leading to blindness

A 39-year-old woman reported to the emergency room three times over five days with chronic headaches. Hospital staff failed to review an MRI taken six weeks earlier indicating a possible increase in inter-cranial pressure; no referral was made for an eye evaluation. The pressure caused atrophy of the optic nerve resulting in permanent blindness. Our office conducted the initial medical reviews indicating a viable malpractice action; the case settled for a total of $3.25 million against all defendants.

$425,000 Dog bite to the face of a four-year-old girl

A four-year-old girl was bitten between her chin and lips while attempting to feed the homeowner’s basset hound. A structured settlement annuity with a value of $425,000 was set up to provide for the child’s college education.

$411,667 Dog bite to a two-year-old boy

A cocker spaniel attacked a two-year-old visitor, requiring plastic surgery, reconstruction of a tear duct, and repair of lacerations to his left eyelid and eyebrow. A structured settlement was negotiated and approved by the Probate Court.

$305,000 Unsafe lane change causing collision with Jersey barrier

A sudden unsafe lane change on I-91 northbound in Wallingford spun the family’s vehicle into the Jersey barrier, injuring a grandmother and children — one daughter’s laceration required 18 stitches. After suit and depositions, the cases settled for a total of $305,000.

$180,000 Man standing on an interstate highway run over by a passing pickup

After his SUV rolled onto the opposite lanes of I-84 in fog, the driver stepped out to warn oncoming traffic and was struck when two vehicles crashed into his SUV, knocking him down and running him over. Despite liability issues, the case settled for $180,000 after suit and depositions.

$150,000 Bite from a dog of unknown ownership

A six-year-old girl was bitten on the face in her own yard by a wandering dog. Through a private investigator, the dog warden, and subpoenaed veterinary payment records, we established ownership — sufficient to settle for the full face value of the homeowner’s policy as a $150,000 structured settlement.

$150,000 Car backing into a handicap van in a parking lot

A driver reversed for a missed parking space without looking, violently colliding with a handicap van. The crash aggravated the van driver’s previously pain-free surgically treated spine, requiring active pain management and epidural injections.

$80,000 Fall on an unsafe stairway

A visitor slipped on construction debris in an unlit stairwell with no railing and uneven risers, suffering injuries requiring surgery. The case settled after depositions at mediation.

$65,000 Fall on poorly maintained stairs at a Disney World hotel

A guest slipped on an accumulation of wet magnolia leaves, suffering fractures of the third and fourth metatarsals and a Lisfranc joint fracture. The matter was referred to local counsel and settled for $65,000.

$55,250 Slip and fall on black ice in a coffee-shop parking lot

A 63-year-old man slipped on black ice, suffering a large hematoma, facial contusion, a permanent scar, headaches and dizziness — and months of distress over a lump later confirmed benign. Settled for $55,250.

$42,500 Fall over boxes hiding floor damage at a wholesale club

Boxes piled mid-aisle to cover tile damage were invisible behind crowds and carts. The store created a dangerous condition without adequate warning; after suit, a deposition and a pretrial, the case settled for $42,500.

Verdicts & settlements as published by the firm. Every case is different; past results do not guarantee future outcomes.

§ 06 Bankruptcy, plainly answered

Questions our clients ask first

There is a lot of misinformation out there about bankruptcy. We simplify the process, shed light on your situation, and help find the best option for you — starting with a free consultation.

We are a debt relief agency. We help people file for bankruptcy relief under the Bankruptcy Code.

How are Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy different?

These are the two most common filings, but they are very different. In Chapter 7, your debts are discharged completely. In Chapter 13, they are restructured into an affordable three- or five-year repayment plan.

Will bankruptcy take all of my money, property, and belongings?

No. Bankruptcy is a valuable consumer protection designed to give you a fresh start, not ruin your life. Connecticut law lets you exempt certain property from creditors — we will make sure you keep what you are entitled to.

I’m behind on my mortgage. Will bankruptcy save my home?

In many cases, filing for Chapter 13 can help you catch up on your mortgage and get out from under water. If you continue making your agreed-upon payments, the creditor cannot foreclose on your home.

Can I stop creditors from harassing me or garnishing my wages?

Once you file for bankruptcy, a stay is automatically placed on your case: creditors are forbidden from contacting you, and any wage garnishments are put on hold.

Can I discharge all of my debts?

Not all. Medical bills, credit-card bills, home loans, and unsecured personal loans can generally be discharged; student loans, child support, alimony, and most taxes cannot.

How does bankruptcy affect my credit?

Bankruptcy affects your credit, but it is often the first step toward recovery — by the time you file, your credit is already suffering. Discharging unpayable debt is how you start building it back.
